Mac & Cheese

Here's a picture of our Zone at Zone Conference!

Happy Easter Everyone!

This week was great, and full of miracles!

So first, that lady, Gerra, who was at the relief society activity last week, and her husband have met with missionaries before. However, we were able to see Alex, her husband, this week, and invited him to hear the discussions again. He accepted! So we will begin having more official lessons with them, and hopefully help them progress to baptism!

Another miracle, we stopped by this house one evening looking for a less active member, but apparently we had an old list and they had moved a while back. BUT, the guy who answered the door, Mac, was up for having us over another time to share the message of the gospel with him! We had an appointment for this past Saturday, but when we stopped by he wasn't home. On our way over to someone else's house, we saw Mac drive past us. He waved, and then he pulled over, got out of his car, and started walking up to us. He came over and apologized that he couldn't meet that night, but he wanted to reschedule for next Saturday! We're super excited to meet with him, so seems like such a great guy!

We also had Zone Conference this week, and it was just awesome. We had a bunch of great trainings, and then a really powerful testimony meeting after. I love getting to go to Zone Conference, it's just such a full day packed with great stuff. Plus I got to see some of my favorite people who are now serving in the Carston Zone.

Spiritual thought of the week! 2 Nephi 32:8
. . . For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray, ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray.
Prayer is so important. It's what allows us to build a strong relationship with our Heavenly Father. I've met so many people recently that wonder why they don't have strong testimonies, but when you ask them how their daily prayer is going they just say, "it's not". Our Heavenly Father wants us to pray, he wants us to talk with him. If we want a strong testimony, we need to pray. It's that simple.

Love you guys and hope that you have a fabulous week!

This week was just the best thing ever!

Well this week was just the best thing ever!

We had a lesson with our investigator Hayden! He's 10 years old, and his mom has decided to start coming back to church. She's working towards the temple, and he's working towards baptism. Our lesson with them went really well! Our goal was to really get a feel for how much he knew, and how much he remembered from the previous missionaries. We ended up trying to get creative, and played an LDS version of the game head bands that we made. It went really well, and Hayden got really into it! He even wanted to play it again after we finished! It ended up being a really good way of gauging how much he knew. He was answering all sorts of questions about gospel principles from the first few discussions, it was great! We then invited him and his family to pray about the Book of Mormon that night. We're both so excited to keep working with them and see how the Lord works in their lives!

We also got to go to a relief society dinner this week. I've always wondered what went on at those activities. It was awesome! We were the only guys that were actually there eating haha, but we had a great time. We got to sit at the old folks table! We have a wide variety of members in our ward, from newly weds, all the way to nearly deads (not my own words, can't take credit). Anyways, the food was great, and we got to learn all about the history of the relief society! We also got to enjoy a couple of very well done musical numbers. And the best part of the night was when Gerra, a lady who is not a member of the church, got up and bore her testimony on the relief society and thanked everyone for all of the love that they had shown to her and her family. It was so powerful! We had the opportunity later in the week to meet Gerra more officially, and her husband Alex. They're from Ethiopia, but have been here for a number of years. They've been meeting with missionaries for the past 8 years or so, but I think that Alex is not to keen on joining the church. However, we got to leave them with a message, and we'll be seeing them again this week!

And now I've got to give a shout-out to the Toone family for really making my week! They showed up Friday night to drop off a cake for my birthday, and it was just the best thing ever! Then they took us out for lunch on Saturday! It was so great getting to see them and catch up. I loved getting to hear about how Claresholm is doing as well. Just as an update, the investigator I got to start teaching there, Grant, is married now! He and his wife are investigating the church still, and I believe he's on date to be baptized! They've got great fellowship in the ward, and really love coming!

And now a little about my companion. I realized that I never really talk about my companions in my emails, so here it goes! Elder Hawkins is just the best! He's all english and says things that I don't quite understand all the time. Like lou-roll instead of toilet paper, and satnav instead of GPS just to name a couple. He loves football (soccer) and now has me calling soccer football. I've also gotten a lesson on how cricket is played so that's great! And I've gotten to ask all those questions about England that I've wondered forever. In case you're wondering, they don't live off of a steady diet of english muffins and butter beer. Who knew? So not only is he English, but he's also a great missionary. He's out for all of the right reasons, and just has such a powerful testimony of the gospel.

For the spiritual thought this week, I want to quote C.S. Lewis. "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important." I just love this quote so much. I've met so many people who just treat the gospel as moderately important, but that's the one thing we shouldn't do. If we are truly Christians, and have a testimony of our savior, Jesus Christ, then we must allow that to effect everything that we do. We must do all that we can to be worthy to return to our Father in Heaven one day. We must give it our all, everything that we have. If we don't, will we be able to say that we have been truly valiant in our testimony of Jesus Christ?

Well that's all for this week folks. Love you all and I hope that you are all doing well!

Love,

Elder Moffitt

The Windy City

So this is Elder Hawkins and I street contacting a guy named Dustin! This is completely authentic, and not posed at all! It just so happened that another set of Elders happened to be parked close by and snapped this pic

Hey ya'll!

I hope everyone has been doing well! We certainly have. I only have like 10 minutes left to email, so lets get to it!

This week was simply smashing! We spoke in Sacrament on sunday, and we were able to take up the entire time! I felt so grown up! And since I don't have much time, I just want to share one great experience. We had a lesson with Sister Dudek and Brother Lorne yesterday and it was just the best thing ever. Sister Dudek is a convert as of 2 years, and is so solid. She's from Germany, and has a really cool conversion story. She basically teaches the lessons while we're there haha. Brother Lorne is from England (he gets along with Elder Hawkins really well) and is a returning member. He's in his 70's and he's a priest, so we are trying to help him prepare to receive the Melchizedek priesthood. As we taught him, I really felt like we were helping him progress and it was just the greatest feeling. And the dynamic between Sister Dudek and Brother Lorne is just fantastic. They both have thick accents and will banter back and forth. At one point, he leaned over and said, "if you interrupt me one more time, I will shoot you" It was hilarious haha.

Spiritual thought:

"So it is that real personal sacrifice never was placing an animal on the alter. Instead it is a willingness to put the animal in us upon the alter, and letting it be consumed" -Neil A. Maxwell

Just ponder that wonderful statement of truth.

Love you guys and hope that everyone's week is just phenomenal!

Cheers!

The Purge: Part 1

My last district! I'm going to miss this bunch of crazies.

Greetings my fine people!

This week was crazy busy and a lot has happened. So the big news is I got transferred. I am now serving in the west side of Lethbridge, and I'm covering two wards. I purged into the area, which means that both my companion and I are brand new to the area, and as a result, know nothing haha. My companion is fantastic! His name is Elder Hawkins, he's been out for three months, and he's from England! He's such a great missionary, and we're excited to be in this new area! Since we're both new, we've spent the past four days just figuring out who everyone is. We have just lists and lists of names that the previous missionaries were working with, and that we've gotten from other members of the ward. We've had so many appointments these past few days that I haven't even had time to fully unpack yet! These wards have both been so welcoming and helpful. Every home that we've been in so far has felt loving, and I already love all of the members! Our District also seems really good so far. There's a lot of missionaries in it, 5 companionships total, and one of them is on a three-leg. that's almost as big as my last zone haha.

Anyways, I'm glad to be here, and hopefully I'll send a better email next week once we've gotten everything figured out.

As for the spiritual thought for today, it comes out of the book of Alma in the Book of Mormon, chapter 13, verse 12:

Now they, after being sanctified by the Holy Ghost, having their garments made white, being pure and spotless before God, could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence; and there were many, exceedingly great many, who were made pure and entered into the rest of the Lord their God.
I love this verse because it explains a little bit about the change that should be brought about by repentance. When we truly repent and turn towards our Savior, we should be like the people talked about in this verse, and cringe at the very thought of sin. Once we experience the joy that comes from living the gospel and keeping the commandments, sin won't even be enticing. Now we must keep in mind that we don't get to this point immediately, but as we continue to repent, we can get closer and closer to reaching it.

Well everyone, I hope you have a great week, and we'll talk to ya later!

Love,

Elder Moffitt
